Kathryn McLeran

Kathryn Farzina Hennessee McLeran, 94, of Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant, died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the care center.

Born Aug. 11, 1910, south of New London, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Amanda Peony May Detrick Hennessee. On Aug. 24, 1931, she married Charles Thornton McLeran in Lincoln, Neb. He died Oct. 17, 1971.

Mrs. McLeran and her husband owned and operated McLeran Music Store from 1940 to 1970. They not only sold all things music related but later branched out to offer appliances.

She was a graduate of New London High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, was a 50–year member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter No. 38. She was a member of TTT Chapter A, the Eastside Mother's Club, the Coterie Club, the Clio Club and the Fort Nightly Club. For many years, she was active with the TTT Girls Camp in Wisconsin.

Survivors include two sisters, Vera Phinney of Cedar Rapids and June Waddle of New London; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral and Eastern Star service for Mrs. McLeran will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson of Bethlehem Chapter No. 38 Order of the Eastern Star officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Memorials have been established for TTT Girls Camp (in care of the National TTT office in Mount Pleasant) and First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant.
