Loraine E. Philpott , 91, Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, died at 5:25 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison.
He was born Jan 12, 1910, at New London, the son of Raymond Shelly and Elizabeth Obermeier Philpott . He married Eileen Apperley in 1955. She preceded him in death in 1996.
He assisted his father in a home decorating business in Mount Pleasant. He then worked from 1944 to 1973, at which time he retired, for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. While traveling for the government in the Middle East, he received numerous government awards. He attended Oakland Mills Schools and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and Burlington Business College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion. After her retired, he moved to North Miami Beach and then moved to Fort Madison in 1999.
He is survived by one sister, Alberta (husband Francis) Fox, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Philpott , Fort Madison and Elizabeth Philpott , Mount Pleasant; a number of nieces and nephews; and two great nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, one other brother and one sister.
His body has been cremated. Graveside services and burial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, with Rev. Jim Hughes officiating.
A memorial has been established to the Kensington and contributions may be left at King-Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison, who is also in charge of arrangements.
