DIED.

SMITH - At the residence of her son, Wm. Smith, in Salem, Henry County, Iowa, Feb. 3, 1883, Mrs. Mary Smith, aged 78 years, 2 months and 26 days.

Mrs. Mary Smith [maiden name Dougherty] was born in Washington County, Pa., November 11, 1804. While yet quite young her parents emigrated to Ohio, but afterward, in 1855, Mrs. Smith removed from Ohio to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, at which place she resided until 1869, and since that time has lived with her children. While she resided in Ohio, at the early age of fourteen years, she was happily converted to God. She at once joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has ever since been faithful and true, and her evidence of the saving power of God was bright and clear to the last. She died as she lived - a faithful disciple of our blessed Lord and Master. She leaves a husband, now seventy-nine years of age, and five sons and three daughters, together with many friends, to mourn her loss. Her funeral services were held in the M.E. Church, Tuesday, February 6, 1883, at 3 p.m. The funeral exercises were conducted by Dr. L.J. Rogers.
