Joshua G. Newbold died of appoplexy at his home in Mount Pleasant on the night of the 10th. Mr. Newbold was elected lieutenant governor in 1875 on the ticket with Samuel J. Kirkwood, and by the election of Gov K as United States Senator became governor and served out the term. He came to Iowa in 1854 and was a farmer in early life; was four times elected to the General Assembly, and besides presiding in the Senate of the 16th G. A. was Speaker in the House one term. His age was 73 years on the 12th of last mouth.
