Sarah D. Wilmeth, daughter of Joseph and Mary Wilmeth, was born February 14, 1838 near Kingston, Ohio. With her parents, she came here in 1846.

She was united in marriage to Albert Van Winkle on October 26, 1853. To this union were born thirteen children, six of which have preceded her in death. Following the death of her husband on November 23, 1900, she has made her home on the farm with her son Kelly and family who tenderly and faithfully cared for her until she passed away May 14, 1922, at the age of 84 years and 3 months.

She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at an early age. Her quiet, cheerful life won for her many friends, who with her relatives, mourn her departure. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bloomquist and were held at the M.E. Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00. The hymns “Abide With Me”, “Lead Kindly Light”, and “Rock of Ages” were beautifully sung by the quartet Mrs. Nell Davis, Miss Bertha Weeks, Messrs Schuyler Stanley and Herbert Garretson, with Mrs. Floyd Beery accompanist. The pallbearers were Kenneth Van Winkle, Chauncey Wilmeth, Lewis Van Winkle, Craig Wilmeth, Loyd Van Winkle, and Justin Van Winkle. Interment was made in the east cemetery.
