OBITUARY.
Mr. John Carpenter, of Mt. Pleasant, Ia., departed this life March 5, 1912, at the home of his son William, after some months of patient suffering. His wife passed away some thirty years prior to his death, which made his life lonely, but he was well cared for during these lonely years by his son and family. He bore it all with a real Christian resignation.
He died at the good old age of 77 years, 6 months and 29 days. His wife departed this life Feb. 28, 1876. Her maiden name was Sarah Moore. To this union were born six children. - William of Mt. Pleasant, Charlie of Burlington, Mrs. O.E. Davison of Brighton; and Frank, Mrs. John Coppock, and an infant son who have preceded him to the better land. One sister is living, Mrs. Joseph Zear, of Wolson.
The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. T.H. Olinger at the Green Mound church, west of Trenton, to a large assemblage of friends. The text, "What is Man." was handled in a masterly way by the preacher.
The family feels sorely bereft of the loss of their father, and while they are sitting in the shadow of God's providence, may they be sustained by his Almighty Grace and spirit.
