Crash victim is county’s 5th fatality

MIDDLETOWN- A 25 year old rural Mt. Union man died Sunday night of injuries he had received over six hours earlier in a car-motorcycle accident on the Geode Blacktop four miles west of here.
Ronald Dean Anderson, Mt. Union, Rt 1, was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m. at Memorial hospital. Cause of death was reported to be an excess loss of blood from the severe body injuries, he received in the crushing collision.
He was injured about 4 p.m. when a westbound car driven by Anna A. Rieke, 75, 1200 Cook, turned into the path of the westbound Triumph motorcycle driven by Anderson.
Iowa Highway Patrolman Robert Porter said that the Rieke car was attempting to make a left turn off the blacktop into the church driveway when the accident occurred.
Anna Rieke and two women passengers in her car were unhurt.
Porter said Anderson suffered a tremendous loss of blood even before being rushed to Memorial hospital by a Burlington fire department ambulance.
Anderson was wearing a protective helmet.
She was ticketed for failure to yield one-half the traveled portion of the highway.
Mr. Anderson was born Oct. 6, 1945, in Burlington, the son of Burl I. and Helen Wilkerson Anderson. He married Linda Decker in Mt. Pleasant, Aug. 20, 1966.
He farmed the Mt. Union area, was a member of the Burlington Army Reserve, Eagle’s Lodge of Mt. Pleasant.
Surviving: His wife, one son, Doak, at home; his parents of Mt. Union; one brother, Dennis, Burlington; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Wilkerson, Winfield.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Presbyterian church of Mt. Pleasant, Rev. Q. Gerald Roseberry; Forrest Home cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian church.

Anderson-Funeral for Ronald Dean Anderson, 25, Mt. Union, Rt. 1, who died Sunday, August 8, of injuries he received in a car-motorcycle accident, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant First Presbyterian church. It was incorrectly reported Monday the the funeral would be Thursday.
The body is at Crane-Ewart-Young funeral home, Mt. Pleasant.
