Minnie F. O'Dean

Minnie Fredrika O'Dean, 97, a long-time resident of Jefferson County, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 1993, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the family present from 1 to 2 p.m. Memorials have been established to First Lutheran Church and the New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery Fund. Behner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. O'Dean was born Jan. 15, 1896, near Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Charles and Freda Anderson Carlson. She married Fred W. O'Dean on Sept. 20, 1916, in Mount Pleasant. He died June 3, 1986. She was baptized and confirmed in the Swedesburg Lutheran Church at Swedesburg.

A homemaker, she lived on a farm near Swedesburg for several years before moving to Jefferson County. In 1942, the couple moved to Fairfield. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Royal Oaks. She was a member of the Golden Anniversary Club, Senior Citizens and the Keep Young Club.

Surviving are three daughters, Lucille Aronson of Bettendorf, Margaret Swenson of Mount Pleasant, Ruth Ratekin of Swedesburg; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A sister, Martha Roxberg, two brothers, Edward and Carl, and a grandson preceded her in death.
