FRANK ROTH OF OREGON KILLED IN ACCIDENT

Frank E. Roth, who has lived in Portland, Oregon and Amity, Oregon mainly since he left Wayland in 1898, was almost instantly killed when hit by an automobile while returning home from his evening meal. He was walking on the highway when met by a car with two boys in it. Another car was coming from the other direction and the lights blinded the driver so they could not see him.

Mr. Roth’s skull was cut open and his leg and other bones broken. He never regained consciousness and lived only about one and one/half hours after the accident.

Mr. Roth was working at a plywood factory at Willimini, rooming just outside the town and taking his meals at another place. He had gone to town for his evening meal and was walking back to his room at about 7:30 P.M. when the accident occurred.

Mr. Roth was born near Wayland, Iowa June 16, 1878 and moved to Oregon in 1898. He was married to Maude Smith December 19, 1900. To this union was born a son, who preceded his father in death.

Mr. Roth spent several years in Amity, Oregon in business and he was also an undertaker at Albany, Oregon for a number of years. His many friends and relatives were shocked to learn of his tragic death.

Those surviving him are his widow, two brothers, O.E. Roth of Amity, Oregon and J. W. Roth of Junction City, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Wood of Wayland, Iowa, Mrs. Katie Eicher of Brighton, Iowa, and Mrs. Amelia Egli of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

Funeral services were at the Macy and Sons Chapel in McMinville, Oregon on Wednesday October 4, 1939 at 11:30 A.M. followed by cremation service at Portland, Oregon.

Frank E. Roth was the son of Michael and Nancy Goldsmith Roth.
