FUNERAL OF MRS. DAVIES

The funeral of Mrs. J. E. Davies who died on Tuesday afternoon of last week was held at 1:30 from the Mennonite church Tuesday afternoon. The funeral was delayed several days awaiting the arrival of relatives from the west. Mrs. Mary Wyse, stepmother of Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Ella Hanson, a sister of Tacoma, Washington, and Lester Wyse, a brother of Adna, Washington arrived late Saturday night. Word was received from F. E. Wyse of Oakland California, another brother, that he had started Friday morning and was expected to arrive Monday morning. However, his train was delayed by a snow storm in the northwest and he did not get here until Monday evening.

After a short service in the home, the funeral was held at the Mennonite church, of which Mrs. Davies was a member. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. S. M. Musselman of Bluffton, Ohio, a former pastor and very close friend of the deceased. Rev. Schrag of the Mennonite church and Rev. Pritchard of the Methodist church assisted in the service. Appropriate music was supplied by the men’s octet with Mrs. O. P. Boshart at the piano. The floral offerings were most beautiful and profuse.

Mrs. Davies, having been a resident of this community practically all her life, was well known and the large crowd present was eloquent testimony of the high esteem in which she was held by all who knew her.

She was born September 9, 1872 near Trenton and died at her home near Wayland November 18, 1924 at the age of 52 years, 2 months, and 9 days. In her girlhood, she moved with her parents to Wayland, residing in and near Wayland all her life. She was converted and united with the Emmanuel Mennonite Church near Noble, while young, later transferring her membership to the Wayland Mennonite church at the time of its organization.

On January 27, 1879 she was married to Jesse E. Davies who survives. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, mother, Mrs. Mary Wyse, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Hanson of Tacoma, Washington and Mrs. Leola Magdefrau of Wayland; three brothers, Frank Wyse of Oakland, California, Lester Wyse of Adna, Washington, and Emerson Wyse of Tacoma, Washington, besides a host of relatives and friends numbered only by those who knew her. She was an earnest and consistent worker in the church, Sunday School, and Dorcas Society.
“So live that when thy summons come to join
The innumerable caravan that moves
To the pale realms of shade, where each shall take
His Chamber in the silent halls of death.
Thou go not, like the quarry slave at night
Scouraged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust approach thy grave
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch
About him and lies down to pleasant dreams.
