MRS. ANNA RICH DIES

Was Former Resident of Wayland

Friends here learned with deep regret of the death of Mrs. Anna Rich, which occurred at her home in Washington early Friday morning. To many of her friends here the announcement of her death came as a surprise as it was not generally known that she was in poor health. However, to her relatives and close friends it was known that she had been suffering for some time with cancer of the stomach and while her death was not entirely unexpected, the news of her passing was a severe shock to her friends here.

Mrs. Rich was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rich and her girlhood days were spent on the farm near Noble. She was married to Joseph G. Rich in 1890 and some time later they purchased the farm northwest of Wayland now owned by C. W. Lute, where Mr. Rich died in 1900. After spending some years on the farm with her children, she moved to Wayland where she remained for some time, later moving to Washington where they have continued to reside.

She leaves to mourn the three children, Lina and Bertha at home, and Charles living on a farm near Crawfordsville, one sister, Mrs. Michael Richard near Wayland, and three half sisters, Mrs. E. E. Eicher, and Mrs. C. K. Schantz, both of Wayland, and Mrs. S. G. Wenger of Donnelson, Iowa, two half brothers, F. G. Rich of near Wayland and W. J. Rich of Newton, Kansas and a host of relatives and friends.

There is no death! The stars go down,
To rise upon some fairer shore;
And bright in heaven’s jeweled crown
They shine forever more.
There is no death! An angel form
Walks oe’r the earth with silent tread;
He bears our best loved things away
And we then call them dead.
But ever near us, though unseen,
The dear immortal spirits tread
For all the boundless universe
Is life—there is no dead.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 25 at one P.M. from the home in Washington and at 2:30 P.M. from the Emmanuel Mennonite Church near Noble. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. H. J. Schrag and Rev. Daniel Graber of the Amish Mennonite Church. Interment was made in the Eicher cemetery near the church.
