WM. COURTNEY KILLED
WELL KNOWN STOCK BUYER FATALLY INJURED IN RUNAWAY
Accident Occurred at His Farm Near St. Francis, Kansas-
Had Gone Out to Put Up His Crop

William Courtney, the well known stock buyer of this city, was fatally injured in an accident at his farm near St. Francis, Kansas, Tuesday and died this morning.

Mr. Courtney owns a large farm near St. Francis and every year goes out to assist in putting up the hay and wheat and other crops. This year he went out as usual, his son Joe accompanying him.

Tuesday, while driving a team along the highway, the horses became frightened by a passing automobile and got beyond the control of Mr. Courtney and ran away. He was thrown violently to the ground and was picked up unconscious. He was cared for and lived but twenty-four hours, not regaining consciousness. The body of Mr. Courtney will arrive here Friday and will be taken to the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Meeker, on East Washington street, where the funeral services will be held Saturday at ten o'clock.

Mr. Courtney has been buying live stock here for many years and is personally known to practically every farmer of the county. He has a host of friends who will be shocked over the news of his sudden death.

He is survived by three children, Mrs. Ella Meeker, of East Washington street; Joe of this city, and A. L. Courtney, of New London.
