Idell Hamill

Idell Hamill, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. today at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Roger Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established.

Mrs. Hamill was born Feb. 14, 1920, in New London, the daughter of Harlan and Edna Raines Hunter. She married Edward Gary Driskell in 1940. They were married for 18 years until his death. She married Robert J. Hamill Oct. 5, 1961. He died Dec. 14, 1988.

She graduated from New London High School in 1937 and moved to Mount Pleasant after her first marriage. She worked at the Glove Factory in New London and was employed at Staats Manufacturers in Mount Pleasant for 10 years.

She and her second husband owned and operated the Mount Pleasant Dairy Queen until their retirement in 1982.

Mrs. Hamill enjoyed family get-togethers, holidays, car rides and shopping, working in her flower beds and watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Hamill of Mount Pleasant and Larry Driskell and Reita of Muscatine; one daughter, Sonja Roth and Brad of Wayland; two brothers, Delvin Hunter and Ivan Hunter, both of New London; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Virginia Williams
