Bessie Van Winkle, 88, dies

LOCKRIDGE - Bessie Van Winkle, 88, Lockridge, died at 3:30 a.m. today, June 22, 1988, at Maple Leaf Health Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Van Winkle was born Oct. 15, 1899, in Salem, the daughter of Wren and Nellie Hollingsworth Watson. She married Verl Van Winkle Nov. 20, 1919, in Salem. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter Evelyn Quayle of Lockridge; a sister Lena Willis of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie, Jesse, Elbert and Herman, and a sister Edith Riley.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Lenwood Monte and the Rev. Larry Hembry officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salem East Cemetery.
