Roger D. Swailes

Roger D. Swailes, 61, Mt. Pleasant, died at 4:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 1992, at Henry County Health Center.

He was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Charles D. and Elsie H. McClure Swailes. On Aug. 10, 1957, in Fairfield, he married Rama Giberson.

A 1949 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, he was the owner of Swailes Auto supply, Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a former member of the Iowa National Guard.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs, Jerry (Susan) Kron, Washington; three sons, Charles Dale Swailes and Steven D. Swailes, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Andrew W. Swailes, Iowa City; eight grandchildren; one brother, Charles William Swailes, Sun City, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Everett (Doris) Taylor, Mt. Pleasant.

Preceding him in death were his father and a sister, Norma Jean.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Virgil Fry and Rev. Glen Richard officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at Beatty Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to First Baptist Church or the Leukemia Foundation.
