George Swailes

George F. Swailes, 72, 606 E. Warren, Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2, 1983, at the Henry County Health Center.

He was born Jan. 16, 1911, in the White Oak area in Henry County, the son of Frank D. and Mary Etta Scarff Swailes. On Feb. 3, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, he married Dorothy O. Jacobs who survives.

Mr. Swailes had farmed near Trenton most of his life and had worked for the city of Mt. Pleasant Street Department until retirement.

He attended the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Orlando F., Muscatine; four daughters, Mrs. Orville (Evelyn) Philipp, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Mrs. Tony (Pauline) Pisano, Spring Valley, N.Y.; Mrs. Lyndon (Mary) Keefer, Glendale, Ariz.; and Mrs. John (Hazel) Crowley, Garnerville, N. Y.; two brothers, Roy and Wilson, both of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Mrs. Blair (Florence) Gilbert, Fox River, Ill; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His parents; four brothers, Charles, John, William and an infant; three sister, Elsie Nelson, Nina Nelson and Lillian Krieger, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. High A. Shiveley and the Rev. Orville Philipp will officiate with interment in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call as they desire after noon Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials have been established for the Henry County Heart Fund and the Cancer Fund.
