Charles D. Swailes

Charles D. Swailes, 77, 405 E. Washington, Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, May 9, 1982, at 8:02 a.m. at the Henry County Health Center.

Born Jan. 28, 1905, at Rome, he was the son of Frank D. and Mary Etta Scarff Swailes. On April 19, 1934, he married Elsie McClure.

Mr. Swailes was the owner-operator of the Swailes Auto Supply for the past 52 years, was a member of the Baptist church, the Iowa Automotive Wholesalers Association, Chamber of Commerce, Isaak Walton League of America, A.T.A and I.S.TA.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Charles William, Azusa, Calif., and Roger, Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Mrs. Everett (Doris) Taylor, Mt. Pleasant; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, George, Roy, and Wilson, Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Lillian) Krieger, Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Blair (Florence) Gilbert, Ingleside, Ill.

His parents, a daughter, Norma Jean, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Alfred Dietz and the Rev. Charles Comfort will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn.

Friends may call as they desire after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Beatty Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for the Central Baptist's Children Home or the Diabetic Association.
