Frances M. Scarff
September 3, 1911 -- September 24, 2005

Frances M. Scarff, 94, of Chariton, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center.

The graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the family present. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Mrs. Scarff was born Sept. 3, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Harriett Thompson Howe. She married Willard J. Scarff in Mt. Pleasant, June 4, 1937. He preceded her in death. She attended Iowa Wesleyan college and was a member of the Omega chapter of the Phi Mu sorority. She was a bookkeeper for Hoaglin's Department Store for 43 years and a bookkeeper for the Mt. Pleasant News for 29 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan and her husband Jerry Fogle of Chariton; and two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Margaret Hoelzen and Doris White; and four brothers, Walter, Joe, Warren and Richard.
