Willard J. Scarff

Willard J. Scarff, 80, 102 N. Harrison, Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, April 18, 1990, at 2:30 a.m. at the Henry County Health Center longterm care unit.

He was born Nov. 20, 1909, near Mt. Pleasant, the son of James and Martha Thorn Scarff.

On June 4, 1937, he married Frances Howe at Mt. Pleasant.

He attended Iowa Wesleyan College. He worked at the Scarff Produce and Fuel Company, Mt. Pleasant.

He attended the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant; was former secretary-treasurer of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club; and time keeper at Mt. Pleasant Community High School and Iowa Wesleyan College basketball and football games.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Susan) Fogle, Chariton; two grandchildren; three sisters, Iona Ried, Westland, Mich., Blanche Meints, Peoria, Ill., and Mary Cronin, Galesburg, Ill.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating.

Interment will be in forest Home Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church.
