Death Takes Ray Scarff

Thomas Ray Scarff, 69, prominent Mt. Pleasant business man and civic leader for many year, died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The son of John Thomas and Orpha Ford Scarff, he was born April 6, 1900, in Henry county, Iowa. He resided in Henry county and Mt. Pleasant all his life. He owned and operated a feed business on North Main Street.

On July 12, 1941, he was married to Lillian M. Ford who survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) McDowell, and Mrs. Dan (Judith) Goddard, both of Mt. Pleasant, three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Arden Swinney of Burlington, and one brother, Frank Scarff of Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michaels Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Matheus, pastor of St. Michaels Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home cemetery.

A memorial at St. Michael's Episcopal Church has been established and those friends who desire may contribute in his memory. Friend may call at The Crane-Ewart-Young Funeral Home as they desire.
