Richard L. Scarff
October 6, 1930 -- August 31, 2005

Richard L. "Ditty" Scarff, 74, of Mt. Pleasant died on Wednesday Aug. 31, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. John Royer and Rev. Hank Ledbetter will officiate the services. Burial will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin after noon on Friday at the funeral home with family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Scarff was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Frank and Edna King Scarff. He attended Mt. Pleasant schools and graduated in 1948. He married Lenora Marshall in 1949. She preceded him in death; he later married Katherine Lanferman in 1966. He was an electrical lineman for R.E.C. of Mt. Pleasant and also Mt. Pleasant Utilities before he retired 1996. He was mayor of Rome for eight years. He was active in the football while in high school and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He raised Registered Appaloosa horses for many years. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Kay of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Nora Grace Scarff of Mt. Pleasant and Vicki Jo Scarff of Burlington; two stepsons, Randall Lanferman of Mt. Pleasant and Michael Lanferman of Houston, Texas; and one stepdaughter, Reta Noblett-Feld of Iowa City; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Scarff of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two daughters, Treva Lynn and Nancy Gail, and one stepdaughter, Linda Ledbetter.
