Mary Scarff

Mary Scarff, 91, Mt. Pleasant, died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1993, at the Henry county Health Center.

She was born Dec. 6, 1901, at Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of John T. and Fannie F. Collins Todd. One Dec. 31, 1931, at Mt. Pleasant, she married Merle Otto Scarff, who preceded her in death.

A homemaker, she had worked as an operator at the Mt. Pleasant Telephone Company for several years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by one son, Robert M., rural Mt. Pleasant; five daughters, Ruth Van Trump, Roberta Callaway, Helen Perrott, Rosemary Smith (all of Mt. Pleasant), and Patti Kerr, Burlington; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one sister Ruth Craig, Mt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, one great grandson, three brothers, Horace, John, and Herbert, and three sisters, Gertrude Toops, Laura Mathews and Lavina Brown.

Open calling hours will begin at noon Monday, Feb. 22, 1993, at the Weir Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Feb. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant, Rev. Larry Mitchel will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
