Merle O. Scarff

Merle Otto Scarff, 76, Mt. Pleasant, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, March 17, 1978, in the Henry county Health Center.

Mr. Scarff was born near Trenton on Aug. 3, 1901, the son of John A. and Rosabelle Allender Scarff. One Dec. 31, 1931 he married Mary Todd at Monmouth, Ill. He was a farmer and later moved to Mt. Pleasant where he was employed by the City of Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Dean (Ruth) Van Trump; Mrs. Lee (Helen) Perrott; Mrs. Ed (Roberta) Callaway; Mrs. James (Rosemary) Smith, all of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Richard (Patty) Kerr of Burlington; son, Robert Scarff of Mt. Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters and one grandson.

In keeping with his wishes of the Scarff family, the funeral services will be private at the Beatty funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ronald McMenamin, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory to the Richwood Cemetery or to the Presbyterian Church

Friends may call as they desire from noon Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.
