Clem Sammons

Mr. Clem J. Sammons, 64, of Rome, died of Cancer at 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1995, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Feb. 5, 1931, at Rome, he was the son of Clem J. and Lottie Messer Sammons. In March of 1950 at Mt. Pleasant, he married Germaine Nashart.

A 1949 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, he worked in the Body Repair Department of sheets Motors of Mt. Pleasant. He was a carpenter working for several area contractors. He had worked at Pulse Auto Salvage in Rome.

He was a member of the Rome Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, Michael G. Sammons of Brighton; four daughters, Mrs. Paul (Judy) Brockman and Mrs. Barry (Sheila) Gallereck, both of Franklin, Iowa, Mrs. James (Sandy) Dingman of Orien, Ill., and Barbara Reeves of Ft. Madison; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oral "Coke" Sammons of rural Mt. Pleasant, Gerald Sammons of Mt. Pleasant; and four sisters, Mrs. Keith (Wanda) Gill of Fairfield, Mrs. Claran (Hazel) Garrison of New London, Esther Rouse and Cecil Milks, both of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Virgil; and one sister, Dorothy Sammons.

Visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

Memorial service will be held at the Rome Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, with Guy Sammons officiating. Interment will be held in the Grant Cemetery west of Rome.

A memorial has been established in memory of Mr. Sammons.
