Fred A. Neff

Fred A. Neff, 57, 1009 N. Lincoln, Mt. Pleasant, died at 5:14 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999, at University Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, Monday, at the funeral home with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to Henry County Ambulance Service.

Mr. Neff was born Nov. 29, 1941, at Washington, the son of Fred S. and Alice Sinn Neff. He married Ardith D. Messer on Nov. 26, 1961, at Trenton. He later married Patsy S. Briggs Ochs on June 12, 1976, in Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1960 and worked with his father on the family farm. After his father died, he continued to farm north of Mt. Pleasant before moving west of Mt. Pleasant to continue farming. He drove a semi on a contract mail route for a few years. He was a machine operator at General Electric in Burlington for 25 years before retiring. He was a volunteer escort with the Department of Human Service of Mt. Pleasant. He was of Protestant faith, and was member of the Iris City CB Club, General Electric Quartet Century Club, and held a HAM radio license for many years.

Survivors include his wife, his mother of Mapleleaf Care Center in Mt. Pleasant; one son, Robert of Mt. Pleasant; three step-sons, Donald Ochs of Mt. Pleasant, Steven Sawyer of Cullman, Ala., and David Sawyer of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Judy Neff of Salina, Belinda Osborn of Mountain View, Calif., and Carolee Hird of Mt. Pleasant; one step-daughter, Pam Sawyer of Long Island City, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; an infant sister, Lois Neff; and one step-daughter Keely Ochs.
