Donald Leydens

Mr. Donald E. Leydens, 62, of 203 N. Jackson, Mt Pleasant, died of cancer at 3:51 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 1995 at the Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.

Born May 11, 1933, at Birmingham, Iowa, he was the son of John A. and Bessie A. Van Brogan Leydens. On Dec. 27, 1952 at Trenton, he married Marilyn E. Cocherell, who survives.

After graduation from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1951, he entered the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He returned to Mt. Pleasant where he worked for Shafer Motors and several other auto dealer garages. He owned and operated Leydens Shell on W. Washington for several years. He owned and repaired cars at his shop on E. Clay before retiring due to his health.

He was a member of the Trenton Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2561 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a founding member of the Henry County Rescue Squad and was a former Captain on the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and Benefited Fire District of Henry County

He is survived by his wife of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Kent D. of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. James (Kimberly) Knapp and Ms. Barbara Leydens, both of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren; two brothers, Jack A. of Coalville, Utah, and Robert LeRoy of Mt. Pleasant; five sisters, Janet Minasich, Patti Kelly and Dorothy Garmoe, all of Mt. Pleasant, Anna Jeamby of Des Moines, and Betty Harper of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bill, Edward, Henry, Ernie and Marion; three sisters, Margaret Ridinger, Darlene McCartney and Carrie Hill.

A private family committal service was held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov, 6, at the Forest Home Cemetery.
