Martha Leeper

Martha Leeper, 69, 211 S, cherry St., Mt Pleasant, died at 10 p.m. Friday, April 30, 1993, at the Mapleleaf Care Center.

She was born January 21, 1924, northwest of Mt. Pleasant near Richwood community in Henry County, the daughter of Omar L. and Elsie C. Ericson Gholson. On June 15, 1947, she married Vernon J. "Red" Leeper, who preceded her in death on April 3, 1981.

A 1942 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, she graduated from the American Institute of Commerce at Davenport, Iowa. She worked for Shafer Motors for one year and in the Henry County Clerk of the District Court's office for three years. She retired after 37 years in the Henry County treasurer's office.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, Founder's Chapter of T.T.T. and was a past member of the Barettes.

She is survived by her step-mother, Neva Gholson, Bloomfield; one daughter, Sherrie L. Leeper, Mt. Pleasant; and two sisters, Vera Aicher and Dorothy Robertson, both of Mt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Edward and Edwin Gholson.

Visitation is being held today at the Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1993, at the First Methodist Church, with Rev. Kim Crummer officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the First Methodist Church or the new Mt. Pleasant Recreation Center.
