Edna L. Garrels

Edna L. Garrels, 89, of New London and formerly of Danville, died at 8;32 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, 1988, at Burlington Medical Center.

She was born October 27, 1899, in Henry County, the daughter of James and Martha Thorne Scarff. She married Roy Garrels Feb. 4, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant. He died Feb. 24, 1976.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sunshine Circle, Middletown Garden Club and New London L.T. Club.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Alta Dockendorff, Danville; Mrs. Irma Mertens, Mt. Pleasant; and Mrs. Blanche Allen, New London; one son, Ronald Garrels, Eldridge; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Iona Reed, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Blanche Meints, Peoria, Ill.; and Mrs. Mary Cronin, Galesburg, Ill.; and one brother, Willard Scarff, Mt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Roger.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Gordon McMillan officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for United Methodist church Missions.
