Roy J. Garrels

Roy J. Garrels, 77, Danville area farmer, died at 1:29 a.m. Tuesday morning, Feb. 24, 1976, at Burlington Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 15, 1899 near Pleasant Lawn, the son of Albert and Anna Holtkamp Garrels.

He married Edna Scarff on Feb. 4, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Garrels was a member of the United Methodist Church, Danville.

Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Alta Dockendorff of Danville, Mrs. Erma Mertens of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Blanche Allen of New London; one son, Ronald of Eldridge; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel McClard and Mrs. Grace Doud, both of Salem, Ore.

One son, Roger, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church, Danville. The Rev. Melvin Reth will officiate with interment in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial for the heart fund has been established.

Friends may call at the Elliott Chapel Wednesday evening from 7 to 9.
