Roger D. Garrels

LOCKRIDGE — Roger Dale Garrels, 52, Lockridge, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at University hospitals, Iowa City, following an extended illness.

He was born in Henry county Oct. 14, 1921, to Roy and Edna Scarff Garrels. He married Margaret Pennebaker in Kahoka, Mo., Nov. 7, 1942.

A supervisor of plumbing and heating maintenance at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant, he was a member of the Iowa Kidney Foundation and Lockridge Lion's club, volunteer fire department and town council.

Surviving: The wife; two sons, Gary, Sperry, and Gail, Brighton; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Luzadder, Mrs. Dixie Nicholson and Patty Garrels, all of Fairfield; four grandchildren; the parents, Danville; three sisters, Mrs. Alta Dockendorff, Danville, Mrs. Irma Mertens, Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Blanche Allen, New London; one brother, Ronald Garrels, Eldridge, la.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday, Elliott chapel, New London, Rev. Lenwood Monte; Forest Home cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
