June 30, 1906 -- December 17, 2001Mary Scarff Cronin, 95, of Barco, N.C., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died on Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at the Semparra Nursing Home in Barco.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no visitation. The Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cronin was born on June 30, 1906, in the White Oak area near Rome and was raised by her mother, Martha Thorn Scarff. She married Rueben Cronin, a former railroad conductor for the CB&Q, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, retired Navy Sea Captain Robert E. and his wife Clyde Cronin of Old Town, Fla.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Willard and Ellsworth Scarff, and four sisters, Edith, Blanche, Iona and Edna.
