Earl Barr

Mr. Earl P. Barr, 83, of 106 South Van Buren, Mt. Pleasant, died at 1:25 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, 1995, at the Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.

Born June 2, 1912, at Fairfield, he was the son of Nelson P. and Cora M. Losh Barr. On March 2, 1933, at Monmouth, Ill., he married Opal V. Nihart Cantwell, who preceded him in death in 1954. On May 4, 1955, at Kahoka, Mo., he married Carmen U. Hinkle Quinn, who survives.

He worked for 17 years at the Hileman Service Station in Mt. Pleasant, and for six years for Mr. Hileman at the Goodyear Tire store behind the service station. He worked for four years at Co-op Fertilizer plant at Mt. Pleasant before moving to Lockridge where he and his wife operated the Country Cousins Cafe.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and was a social member of the VFW. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his stepmother, Alice Barr of Mt. Pleasant; his wife of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Virgil Barr of Mt. Pleasant; two stepsons, Thomas R. Quinn of Peak Rapids, Minn, and Jack Cantwell of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Young and Mrs. Clarence (Verlee) Van Amcrongen, both of Mt. Pleasant; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Donald (Donna) Fillinger of Lockridge, Mrs. Paul (Judy) Hoer of Laddonia, Mo., and Mrs. Roy (Joy) Gilleard, of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren and a half sister, Orvilla Barr of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence A., Harold J. and Clifford W. Barr; an infant half brother; and two sisters Marilla Barr and Dorothy Peterson.

Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Weir Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the First United Methodist Church, with Revs. Chris Myers and Lester smith officiating. Interment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Lockridge Community Hall or the Mt Pleasant First United Methodist Church.
