Ramona Sammons

Ramona Ruth Sammons, 70, of rural Mount Pleasant died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at her home.

Born June 14, 1940, in Oakland Mills, she was the daughter of Raymond Oxly and Mabel Mae Henry Moorehead. On Aug. 16, 1958, she married Henry Edward Sammons in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Sammons managed the Veterans Club and the Moose Lodge in Mount Pleasant for many years. She also worked as a cook and waitress at the Hi Hat Cafe, the Westside Diner and Wings Bakery, all in Mount Pleasant, and did babysitting. She retired in 1999. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1958.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. She was a member of Women of the Moose and an associate member of VFW Post 2561, both in Mount Pleasant. She had also been a member of a bowling league and pool league. She was a gifted seamstress and embroiderer, and embroidered bowling and pool league shirts and square dance outfits. She enjoyed gardening, canning and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Ray Sammons of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Tanya Munyon of Omaha, Neb., Treva Wittstock of Arbela, Mo., and Theresa DeMeyer of Mount Pleasant; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild and her parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Sammons will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kimzey Funeral Home with the Rev. Guy Sammons officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.
