MERNA H. ROYER

Merna Harrietta Royer, 74, of Burlington died Friday, December 8, 2006 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born April 6, 1932, in Rock Island, Illimois, she was the daughter of Harry Nelson and Iru Alice Christner Messer. On August 10, 1974, she married James Everette Royer. He died June 16, 1998.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1950. She worked in production for IRC in Burlington, Staats Manufacturing in Mount Pleasant and Sheaffer Pen. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and music. She belonged to the Sweet Adelines. She was a member of the former White Oak Missionary Church and attended Flint Hills church of the Nazarene in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Knots and Sherry Messer, both of Burlington; three sons, James and Ronald Royer, both of Burlington, and Rick Royer of Dallas; two sisters, Marla Connor of Winfield and Marydel Fleagle of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Dean Messer of Mount Pleasant; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weir and Kimzey Funeral Home, (It appears that they left out a sentence here) with the Rev. John Royer and Ronald Jewell officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Rome.

Memorials have been established for White Oak Cemetery and Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene.
