James E. Royer

James E. Royer, 67, of Burlington, died at Burlington Medical Center,

Born near Brighton, he was the son of Everette L. "Lee" and Mabel Mullikin Royer. He married Merna H. Messer Aug. 10, 1974, in White Oak Community of Henry County.

He attended schools on Lee County and high school at Richland. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Royer worked at Sweetheart and Mississippi Bakery (now Aldi's) in Burlington for 37 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Eagles in Burlington, American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9162 of Burlington, where he served for many years in the Color Guard.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, James L. Royer and Ronald Royer, both of Burlington, and Rick Royer of Dallas; two daughters, Connie Knotts of Burlington, and Sherry Charbonneaux of Oquawka, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter;four brothers, John Royer of Centerville, and Robert Royer, William Royer and Joseph Royer, all of Burlington; and two sisters, Mildred Bensmiller of Mount Pleasant, and Marjorie Lillard of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

The funeral was held at Weir Funeral Home. A military graveside service followed.
