Walcom Messer

Mrs. Sheridan (Walcom) Messer, 80, 404 S. Main, Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1982, at 5:25 p.m. at Henry County Health Center.

She was born Nov. 1, 1901, near Rome, the daughter of William and Myrtle Swailes McMurren. On March 12, 1918, at Rome, she married Sheridan Messer who died Oct. 25, 1980.

She was a member of the White Oak Missionary Church, its Women's Missionary Society, the Henry County Health Center Auxiliary and Senior Citizens.

Surviving are four sons, Karl, Mt, Pleasant; Gilbert, Burlington; Melvin, Mt. Pleasant; and Emmett, Yarmouth; two daughters, Mrs. Darrel (Vera) Ensz, Ottumwa and Mrs. Wayne (Joanne) Stahly, Lincoln, Neb.; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Brown, Colona, Ill.; Mrs. Gertude Hoover, Glenvil, Neb.; Mrs. Nora Hoover, Rock Island, Ill.; and Mrs. Ruth Fortune, Pontiac, Mich.; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents, one brother, Leo, two children, Pauline and Lena, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Trenton Missionary Church. The Rev. Alfred Dietz will officiate with interment in White Oak Cemetery. Family and friends will meet for lunch at the Capitol Savings and Loan courtesy room after committal services on Friday.

Memorials have been established for the White Oak Cemetery or the Women's Missionary Society. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home.
