Sheridan Messer

Sheridan Messer, 83, 404 S. Main, Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1989 at 9:30 a.m. at the Henry County Health Center.

He was born April 5, 1897 at Rome, the son of Sheridan and Everleana Collins Messer. On March 12, 1918 at Rome he married Walcom McMurren who survives.

Mr. Messer was a member of the White Oak Missionary Church and a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Karl and Melvin, both of Mt, Pleasant, Gilbert of Burlington and Emmett of Yarmouth; two daughters, Mrs. Darrel (Vera) Ensz of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Wayne (Joanne) Stahly of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers, Joe of Naperville, Ill., and Dwight of Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. Warren (Louise) Stiefel of Mt. Pleasant; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

His parents, two daughters, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Trenton Missionary Church. The Rev, Dietz officiated with interment in the White Oak Cemetery. Arrangements were by Beatty Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant.

Music was provided by Mrs. George Ensminger Jr., pianist; Mrs. Alfred Dietz, organist; and a quartet of Lloyd Hinkle, John Hinkle, Ray Gates and Carl Ingwersen.

Casket bearers were his grandsons, Mark Messer, Dennis Messer, Kevin Messer, John Ensz, Randy Ingwersen and Phillip Stahly.

A memorial was established for the White Oak Cemetery Association.
