Josephus Messer

Funeral services for Josephus Messer, 82, of Route 3, Mt. Pleasant, were held Tuesday, May 29, 1979 at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant.

A duet was by Emerson Krabill and Raymond Gates. Organist was Mrs. Robert McKim. Serving as casket bearers were Kent Bennett, James Swailes, Richard Droz, Jerry Messer, Roger Bouge and Richard White. Interment was in a family plot at White Oak cemetery north of Rome with arrangements by Beatty Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Messer died Friday, May 25 at 11:54 p.m. at Long Care Health Unit of Henry County Health Center.

He was born June 22, 1896 near Rome, the son of Zion and Esta Piper Messer. One Dec. 20, 1916 he married Alma Sammons who preceded him in death Dec. 3, 1969.

Mr. Messer was a retired farmer. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Claude (Wilma) Thornton and Mrs. Blanche Barr, both of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Raymond (Betty) Bouge of Ft. Lupton. Colo.; one son, Robert D. Messer of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo Messer of Rome; one sister, Mrs. W. O. (Daisy) Myers of Mt. Pleasant.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Orville, Fred and Chris, sister, Anna Sammons and one granddaughter, Joyce Deck.
