--------------
Services at White Oak Church Monday for Mrs. Rebecca Messer

---------------

Rome: Largely attended funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at White Oak chapel for Mrs. Rebecca Messer, who passed away at her home here Friday evening about five o'clock after weeks of suffering due to the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Messer was past 82 years of age and lived the greater part of her life in this vicinity. She was the mother of eleven children, the following eight are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother: Mrs. Florence Fields of Weed, Calif.; Mrs. Jane Caldwell near Lockridge; Mrs. LaVina Flanders of Salina; and Mrs. Ed Scarff, Zion, Freeman; Sheridan and Joe Messer of this place. Alice, Rhoda and Mrs. Sarah Beaber preceded her in death. Her husband, Josephus Messer, passed away a number of years ago.

Mrs. Messer gave her hear to God early in life and has remained true and faithful to Him. Her life has been a benediction and an inspiration to all who knew her. She leaves a number of grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who sincerely mourn her death.

Rev. Friend Glendenning of Oskaloosa had charge of the services. The church was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects to the good woman. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Mrs. Homer Scarff, Mrs. Coe, Messrs. John Ingwerson and Wade McBeth sang "Asleep in Jesus", "That Fair City" and "Meet Mother in the Skies".

The flower laden casket was carried to its last resting place by six grandsons, Leo and Basil Messer, Roy Scarff, Wayne Caliwell, Albert Beaber and Sheridan Messer, Jr. Interment was in the cemetery next to the church.
