Wednesday, 19 November 1947FUNERAL HELD FOR JOSY MESSER
The memorial service for Josy Messer was held at the Cookes Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00. Dr. George Hunt of the First Methodist Church was the officiating minister. Mrs. Stanley B. Niles and Mrs. Will McClaran sang and Mrs. Dan Winter played the organ. Pallbearers were Pete Messer, Dan Scott, Merrill Millspaugh, LeRoy White, Robert Campbell and Albert Beaber. Burial was in White Oak cemetery.
Josy Messer, the son of Joseph and Rebecca Messer, was born at White Oak, March 25, 1876, and passed away from this life after a long illness at his home early Sunday Morning, Nov. 16, 1947.
All of his life was lived in the White Oak and Rome communities, where his productive years was given to the occupation of farming.
July 5, 1896, he married Alive Collins of Rome, who with eight of his nine children survive: Mrs. Lottie Sammons of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Dorothy Balliser of Ft. Madison; Mrs. Ruby Adams of Olds; Basil, Fairfield; Max, Farmington; Allan, Cairo, Missouri; Noel, Fairfield and Ralph at home. Other survivors are 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Vina Flanders, Lockridge; Mrs. Jane Caldwell and Mrs. Azuba Scarff of Rome. A daughter, Ethel and two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
