S. Messer Dies At 89

Stella Messer, 89, 602 Depot, died Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. at Parkview Care Center where she had been a resident for six months.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene of Fairfield with the Rev. Gerald Miller officiating. Interment will be in White Oak Cemetery, north of Rome. Visitation will be at the Behner Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. The daughter of David and Florence Schirmer Hill, she was born Aug. 10, 1888 in Henry County. On February 6, 1906, she was married to Elmer Messer. He died March 22, 1960.

She had lived in the Fairfield community for over 50 years. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by one son and five daughters: Leonard Messer, Farnamville; Bessie Standley and Esther Dollins, both of Davenport; Gladys Willich, Buffalo; Grace Samuelson and Viola Samuelson, both of Fairfield. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Fields of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Ira Hill, Moline, Ill. She was preceded in death by three sons.
