Harry Messer

Harry (Tickleberry) Messer, 74, Route 3, Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1980 at his residence.

He was born June 17, 1906 in the White Oak area, Henry County, the son of James W. and Elma Nelson Messer. On Oct. 16, 1934 at Clinton he married Iru A. Christner who survives. Mr. Messer, a lifelong resident of the White Oak area, farmed the Messer homestead. He attended the White Oak Church.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Dean W. of rural Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Mrs. James (Merna) Royer of Burlington, Mrs. Frank (Marla) Connor Jr. of Winfield, and Mrs. Richard (Marydel) Fleagle of Mesa, Ariz.; One brother, Harlan Messer of rural Mt. pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Zell Scarff and Irene Messer, both of rural Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

His parents, two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held a 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Ralph Draper will officiate with interment in the family plot in White Oak Cemetery.

Friends may call as they desire after noon Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established for the White Oak Church and Cemetery.
