Iru A. Messer

Iru A. Messer, 89, of White Oak community north of Rome, died at 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 1999 at Henry County Health Center.

Visitation will begin a noon on Monday, March 22, 1999 at Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, where the family received friends from 6:30-8 p.m. on Monday evening.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Duane Hulett of Trenton Missionary Church officiating.

Interment will be held in White Oak Cemetery north of Rome.

A memorial has been established to White Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Messer was born on June 14, 1909 in Wayne Township of Henry County, IA to Peter and Lydia E. Conrad Christner. On Oct. 16, 1934 at Clinton, she married Harry N. Messer who preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1980.

She attended Prospect School east of Wayland and helped her husband on the Messer family farm all of her life. She was a life member of White Oak Church north of Rome.

She is survived by one son, Dean W. Messer, rural Mt. Pleasant; three daughter, Merna Royer, Burlington, Marla (Frank, Jr.) Conner of Winfield, and Marydel (Richard) Fleagle. Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Mary Erickson of Montrose, Calif.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Amon and Elon Christner, and one sister, Nora McKune.
