Thursday, 3 February 1949Funeral Held For Calvin Messer
----------Funeral services for Calvin Alonzo Messer were held at the Cookes Funeral home Tuesday, Feb. 1, with Rev. Stanley Andersen officiating. Mrs. Will McClaran and Mrs. Stanley B. Niles sang. Mrs. Max Stein played the organ.
Burial was in White Oak cemetery. Pallbearers were: Clifford, Wayne and Paul Messer, Roscoe Hendrick, Rex Nelson and O. L. Tallman.
Calvin Alonzo Messer was born January 26, 1876 in Henry county, Iowa. He died January 31, 1949 at the Memorial hospital in Mt. Pleasant. He had been in failing health for some time, but ill only a few days.
He was the oldest son of John A. and Cornelia Hallowill Messer. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Lydia Ann, and a brother, William Henry. He is survived by an aged mother, 2 brothers, Wilbert at home and Garfield of Lockridge, one sister, Mrs. Fred Myers of Rome, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He spent his entire life as a resident of Henry county.
