Alvin Messer Funeral Is Held

----------

The funeral service for Alvin Messer was held at the Rome Baptist church. A mixed quartet from Rome sang very beautifully "Nearer My God, To Thee" and "Going Down the Valley". Many were present despite the freezing weather, to pay a last tribute to a good friend. Mrs. Wormhoudt spoke from the 142 Psalm, "Refuge Failed Me." The body was laid to rest at White Oak Cemetery.

Alvin Messer, son of John and Rhoda Messer, was born July 16, 1857, in Trenton township, Henry county, and died Feb. 5, 1933, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was one of a family of 14 children of whom 12 preceded him in death. One sister survives, Mrs. Hugh Olinger, of Rome, Iowa, with whom he made his home for the past 26 years. Besides his sister, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
