Marie E. McClure, 79, of 114 Lower Jersey Road, Jersey, Ga., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Park Place Nursing Facility in Monroe, Ga.
Born Jan. 3, 1917, at Des Moines, she was the daughter of J. Edmond and Ella Mae Welch Walker. She married Edward A. DeVilbiss May 18, 1935, in Burlington. He preceded her in death. She later married Donald R. McClure March 31, 1968, at Iowa City. He died Jan. 11, 1974.
She was a 1934 graduate of St. Paul's High School in Burlington. She was a dental assistant to Dr. Sinksank of Burlington before moving to Mount Pleasant, where she was a credit manager for Montgomery Ward. She also had worked at Kemper Insurance office in St. Paul.
Mrs. McClure was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant and St. Anna Catholic Church in Monroe, Ga. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella and Altar and Rosary Society, Moose Lodge in Mount Pleasant and VFW Auxiliary, and was a charter member of Eagles.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Overturff of Jersey, Ga.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Walker of Wellman, Floyd Walker of Kalona and Lloyd Walker of Haber Springs, Ark.; and one sister, Viola Dare of Grinnell.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son.
A rosary service will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Meadows Funeral Home in Monroe, Ga.
Visitation will begin at noon Friday, Dec. 27, at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where another rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Christian prayer service at 7 and the family receiving friends from 7:30 to 9.
A memorial service for Mrs. McClure will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Nick Adams officiating.
A memorial has been established for St. Jude's Research Hospital.
