Carlos L. McClure, 78, Route 5, Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1988, at 8:40 p.m. at the University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Born May 21, 1909, at Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Ralph and Ada Lane McClure. On Nov. 25, 1931, at Monmouth, Ill., he married Mildred Fields.

Mr. McClure was a member of the White Oak Missionary Church. A retired farmer, he had worked at I.A.A.P., Burlington and McWhirter Chevrolet and Buick.

Surviving are his wife; seven children, Mrs. Pete (Joan) Messer, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Gerst, Mediapolis; Dick McClure, Burlington; Ronald McClure, Lockridge; Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Burden, New London; Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Scarff, Mt. Pleasant; and John McClure, Holt, Mich.; one brother, Robert, Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Smith and Mrs. Elsie Swailes, both of Mt. Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

His parents, one grandson, one sister, Margarette, two infant sons, one daughter, Margaret, two brothers, Don and John, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, The Rev. Alfred Dietz will officiate with interment in White Oak Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to the White Oak Cemetery or Hope Haven Development.
