David Whaley

MT. PLEASANT — David Whaley, 90, Mt. Pleasant Rt. 1, died about 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Burlington Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 24, 1885, in Meigs county, Ohio, the son of Jasper and Sara M. Hanning Whaley. He married Ora White April 16, 1910, in Mt. Pleasant. He worked for the county and state highway departments for 25 years and worked a number of years here for his son, Ernest. He had lived in Mt. Pleasant 70 years.

Surviving: The wife; three sons, Ernest, Mt. Pleasant, Walter, McKinleyville, Calif., and Herman, Salem; three daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Florence) Swailes, New London, Mrs. Frank. (Lulu) Russell, Morning Sun, and Mrs. Isabelle Purkapile, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Caddie West and Gertrude Whitaker, both of Akron, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mt. Pleasant Open Bible church, Rev. Charles Courtney; Richwood cemetery.
