Andrew J. Brownell

MT. PLEASANT — Andrew J. Brownell, 90, died of natural causes at his residence, 123 1/2 N. Main, Thursday, Jan. 18.

The son of William W. and Lena Kerfus Brownell, he was born Feb. 2, 1888, in Henry county. He married Fannie F. Ford at Mt. Pleasant in January 1908; she died in 1933. He married Ethyl M. Williams Nov. 18, 1968, at Fairfield.

He farmed and in 1934 joined the staff of the former Iowa Highway Commission. Later he was employed by the city of Mt. Pleasant at Forest Home cemetery. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving: The wife; three daughters, Irma Swailes, Marceline Jordan, and Ruth Penn, all of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Milo, Agency; six sisters, Velma Smith, Burlington, Anna Mitts, New London, and Mary Ingwerson, Bertha Burky, Elsie Woodsmall and Edith Molander, all of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren,

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, Weir-Cookes funeral home, Rev. Charles Comfort; Richwood cemetery. A Heart Assn. memorial has been established.
