Erma Scott

Erma V. Scott, 86, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

Born May 30, 1920, near Trenton, she was the daughter of Wade L. and Mertha Lorene Scarff McBeth. On December 26, 1950, she married Francis B. Scott in Mount Pleasant. He died August 23, 1974.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1938. She took the Normal Training course to become a school teacher. She later received a bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1966. Starting in the fall of 1938, she taught in rural schools, mostly fifth grade at the Pleasant Lawn School, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the church's Altar and Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella Chapter. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Woman's Club, Women of the Moose, South Center Club and Westside Mothers Club. She enjoyed traveling, especially with the Emerald Club of Henry County Bank. She loved music and was a member of the Sweet Adelines, where she sang in the leads voice part. She collected blue flow pottery and other antique glassware. She was a member of the Questers. she was known for her excellent cooking.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Sammons of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Friends may call from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday at Weir and Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Visitation will continue from 4 until 9 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, with the Altar and Rosary Society reciting the rosary at 4:30 p.m. and the parish vigil service will take place at 7 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Scott will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Church, with the Rev. Nicholas Adam as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Memorials to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Elementary School Media Centers of Mount Pleasant Community School District are suggested.
